Asthma Symptoms in Children and Adults

,

The first and foremost thing to do if you think you have contracted asthma is to get with your doctor as soon as possible. If you have signs like coughing, wheezing and tightness in the chest, it is better to catch it sooner rather than later. No one wants to suffer from a severe asthma attack which can be deadly if not treated immediately. Not every child or adult will have the same symptoms of asthma. Children are smaller and are more vulnerable to severe asthma, where as an adult has fully developed immune system and has a higher threshold then that of a child. Asthma doesn’t target just the young and old it targets anyone with the heredity genes or those who are susceptible to allergic reactions to pollens and dust. Once you have contracted asthma it could be months before you really see any signs that you have it. Symptoms will slowly get worse and at that time the symptoms could be put off as a cold or flu. These symptoms must be watched closely. If they get worse it is time to see your doctor and find out what is going on inside you. The most common of asthma attacks are mild ones. But don’t let those fool you because the onset of a severe asthma attack could be ready to strike you at any time. Your best line of defense is knowledge about the disease and how to protect yourself when attacks arise.

Causes of asthma are still widely unknown. No one has a definitive answer as to what will cause it and it continues to affect millions and millions of people. Some things can enhance your ability to get asthma such as smoking while you’re pregnant, being around second hand smoke as a child or an adult for long periods of time will have long term effects. So if you are one of the millions who suffer from asthma there is a way to control your asthma symptoms. Your doctor can prescribe you with prescription drugs and an inhaler to calm your lungs in the midst of an asthma attack. Something to always remember is that prescription drugs and inhalers come with all sorts of side effects. When my son was diagnosed with asthma, we got him on prescription drugs, an inhaler and also nebulizer treatments. Our doctor did not go through the dangers of the side effects of prolonged use of these strong medications. We found out a few months after giving him his medications that his inhaler would have robbed him of his ability to have children later on in life. Don’t you think that is something you would WANT to know when your child of 4 years old is put on a strong medication? I think so.

Asthma is the leading chronic disease in children. As children get this disease it does carry into adulthood as well. The main problem with this disease is that we are all about controlling the symptoms and not focusing on eliminating the root cause. There are natural ways to control asthma but there are also natural ways to help your body actually eliminate it. There is no cure as far as medications are concerned. The only cure there is for any illness and disease is your body. With the right tools your body can overcome anything, even asthma.
