Asthma - A Severe and Grave Attack. A simple explanation

,

Introduction: Asthma is a chronic condition that usually rises with symptoms involving breathlessness, cough and chest infections. Many studies show that one is affected with it among 15 people. There is no particular cure for this disease. However, many people overcome the problem, control this disease and live healthy, normal and active lives. There are many different reasons that may cause asthma. These vary from one person to another. For example, in some people this disease prevails due to air pollution, smoke, animals, dust, strong aromas and pollens. These all conditions may result in severe attack for some people. Causes: In the normal functioning of body, we carry oxygen from the air. So, that all the cells within a body can work smoothly. The air from the nose or mouth enters into windpipe and then goes into tubes called bronchi. These bronchi are present into the lungs and from here the blood takes this oxygen to the rest parts of the body. So, what happens in asthma, sometimes these bronchial tubes turn into very narrow tubes or sometimes even blocked. As a result of all this, air can't move into the lungs easily and smoothly. It becomes difficult to take in and out oxygen.

There are two main reasons that cause bronchi tubes to become narrow. Firstly, sometimes these tubes are compressed by the muscles or the outside muscle pressure may cause them narrow. The other reason is inflammation. This means that the tubes are sometimes swelled inside that may cause difficulty in breathing. Asthma usually appears in most of the cases under the age of 18. However, it does not mean that this disease is stick to that specific age. It may appear at any time even in late sixties and seventies. Treatment Guide: there are some important measures to minimize the risk of attack. Firstly use the prescribed medication with great care. There are certain anti inflammatory medications used in this regard. Inhaler is also used to avoid an attack. However, doctors recommend the exacting timings and intervals of using it which depend on the situation of the patient. A rare but possible side effect of an inhaler is that it may cause mouth infection. So, rinse mouth with water after using it. These anti inflammatory drugs are also available in pills that have long lasting effects than inhaler does.

Another important measure to minimize the risk of attack is to monitor breathing time to time. A simple, small and handy device used for this is peak flow meter. So, patients affected with asthma should monitor their breath with this instrument on regular basis. Furthermore, it is very important to keep the patient away from those things that cause irritation and give rise to asthma attacks. For example, if smoke is the main cause try to avoid all polluted, smoky and fire places. If the cause is dust, keep your homes clean to most possible extent. Avoid heavy curtains and carpets because these are the places that collect dust. Use plastic covers and sheets. However, these precautionary measures may help to avoid the risks but not something all. Guide if you have an attack: Always keep the medicine handy to clean and open the airways. Do not confuse the drugs with inhaled medications. Wrong medication can affect the lungs instead of opening breathing airways. Check breathing regularly.
